It is apparent that point absorber generation systems are some of the most exciting new technologies for creating substantial amounts of clean, renewable energy from ocean power. Though linear induction takeoff is more efficient than hydraulic takeoff systems currently used in point absorber buoys, this technology is still very new and is thus very expensive. Even hydraulic point absorbers are just beginning to be built and deployed, so it will likely take some time for linear induction units to be developed and utilized. As such, it is our recommendation to proceed with the implementation of hydraulic point absorbers; any problems that occur with the physical design of the buoys can be worked out in time to upgrade the power generation units to linear induction technology. At today's fast pace of technological development, linear induction systems should soon become economically feasible.
